Trauma Informed Care: Perspectives and Resources

LM CME Featured in Award-Winning Documentary

Children and Families Having a Choice and Voice was recently announced as the winner of the Video/Social Responsibility Award, which was presented by the 2013 19th Annual Communicator Silver Awards of Distinction.

This documentary, which was filmed in 2012, featured several LM CME staff. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services collaborated to create the documentary. The video tells the stories of families in nine States across the country that are taking advantage of the Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF) Waiver, a program that allows children and youth with serious mental illness to be treated within the community and live in a supportive, family environment rather than in a residential facility. Adam Artis of the IMC created an hour-long video showing how the program is working in those States —Alaska, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Maryland, Mississippi, Montana, South Carolina and Virginia—and also created shorter 10-20 minute videos for each State to showcase their own local program.
