Are you a young adult living with a mental illness, substance use and/or co-occuring diagnosis? Do you wish you could use your experiences to help youth who are going through difficult times get the support they need?

The Office of Children, Young Adults and Families, and the Office of Recovery Transformation, in partnership with the Office of Federal Grant Programs and Special Initiatives is looking for young people like you to become Certified Peer Specialist – Youth (CPS-Y) and use their lived experience to support youth through out Georgia. This five-day event is scheduled for February 6-10, 2017.

This training is intended for enrollees who meet the lived experience expectations outlined below:

  • Must be 18-26 years of age;
  • Living with a mental health (MH), substance use disorder (SUD), or co-occurring diagnosis; and a strong desire to identify themselves as a person living with a mental health condition or substance use diagnosis (current or former person receiving behavioral health services);
  • Be able to advocate for themselves;
  • Have a high school diploma or GED;
  • Be able/willing to actively seek and manage their own appropriate care; and
  • Be able to share their own personal story in a safe and appropriate way.
The Application, along with documentation, must be submitted by Friday, January 20, 2017.
