Lookout Mountain Community Services (LMCS) and Lookout Mountain Care Management Entity (LM CME) are excited to announce a new partnership with the Crisis Text Line (CTL).

Effective immediately, anyone in Georgia experiencing an emotional crisis can text GA to 741741 to text with a trained Crisis Counselor. The service is free, confidential and available 24/7.

Texts are answered by trained Crisis Counselors at the Crisis Text Line (CTL), which serves as the official crisis text line for Darkness to Light, NAMI, Mental Health America, and the National Eating Disorders Association, just to name a few.

Not only will individuals who text benefit directly from the service, but LMCS and partners will also receive information that will help improve supports and services to the community. Anonymous information from texts using the keyword GA will be collected, and data will be returned to local partners to help us better understand the needs and concerns of texters in Georgia.

Erin Conaway, Outreach Specialist for LM CME, has been working with CTL since September to foster this opportunity.

“Sometimes, when a person is going through a difficult time, it can be hard to reach out to others, ” Erin says, “There is so much stigma about seeking help, and people are afraid they will seem weak or incompetent if they cannot do it on their own.”

She hopes this new resource will help bridge the gap for people who want someone to talk to someone but who are uncomfortable seeking help from traditional mental health services.
